Dasvidaniya

Remember the cute movie "Dasvidaniya"? In this movie, the protagonist has a terminal disease and only has a month to live. He makes a list of things he wants to do before he dies and goes thru his list during that one month. He lived his life to the fullest during that one month as he did everything that he ever wanted to do. Steve jobs also famously said that you should look into mirror every day and think if today was your last day, would you do what you are about to do.

Here is my Dasvidaniya list. These are the things I want to do in this life:

  • I want to go on an unplanned road trip. I  keep driving and see places that I come across in between and meet people. I stop at the hotels wherever I am at around 10 PM. Eat at a variety of restaurants.
  • I want to live in a village for 15 days, living the life of a villager. No cell phone, no internet, no TV. Help them if needed during the day, eat what they eat, do what they do in the evening and go to sleep under the sky.
  • I want to go on a cruise to lush islands.
  • I want to go on a euro rail trip.
  • I want to learn Percussion instruments like Tabla, drums, Congo and want to be part of at least one concert.
  • I want to stay in a punjabi house in Punjab for 15 days. I am very fascinated by Punjabis. Maybe it is because of the way they are shown in movies, but for some reason, I wanted to experience the life of a punjabi.
  • Bombay fascinates me a lot. I want to live in Bombay for a month and experience its life.
  • I want to go on a restarurant hopping for a month. Every meal, I should eat outside and I should not repeat any restaurant.

I will be adding to this list. I think everyone should make a list like this because as you know time flies by very fast and you should make time for what you want to do in this life and unless you have a list, you don't have a target to work against. Some of the things I have on this list have been in my mind but until I strained my mind to prepare this list, it did not come out. This list is also important because now-a-days everyone's life is so mechanical and stressed out, life feels like routine. We routinely ask ourselves, what can I do so that I take my mind away from the routine things I do and some of the things that come to mind are watching a movie or going to the dance floor. Sure, they make you happy for that moment. But when you are 60 years old and you make this list, you will feel bad that there were a lot of things you could have done earlier when you wanted to break the routine instead of just watching a movie. You did not have a list. I am not saying watching a movie is bad. But think about your dreams and aspirations you have from this life and cross off each one from your list when you get are young and have time, energy and money so that one day you can say, I did everything from my list.

Overdose of D.K. Bose

Glad to be back to writing the blog after a long time. Recently saw the movie "Delhi Belly". There are a lot of things which are unique and path breaking about that movie. To start with, this is probably the first movie with an adult comedy. These kinds of movies are very common in Hollywood, but we did not have a genuine adult comedy in Bollywood.

It had a lot of bleeps and most of them were situational. They were not there for the sake of being there. This adult comedy is a well written movie. Now what happens!!! True to the spirit of Bollywood, now we will see an overdose of D.K. Bose. I remember when Murder movie became a huge hit, for the next two years, we were treated with an array of soft porn movies. The Producers and directors got only that part from the Murder Movie. That movie was much more than the love making scenes which became popular and made Mallika Sherawat what she is today. There was a genuine story in that movie.

But nobody saw that. They only saw the movie songs on the T.V and they said "Arrey bhai, ab yehi chalta hai!!". I am sure now there will be an array of adult comedies and none of them will be well written. They only look at D.K. Bose and say the audience likes only that now after "Delhi Belly".  Aamir definiitely gave life to a genre that did not exist before but he does not know that he has opened a pandora's box of movies with a lot of bleeps and sleaze.
