It's been more than a week when Mumbai experienced one of the worst attacks ever. I have been watching the aftermath, the drama, the political mud-slinging, the rare coming together of the whole nation and probably the whole world for a cause. The emotions and feelings are all over the place and everything is volatile.
I have been reading the views of many people on this incident and I liked a few of them and did not like a few of them. One of my favorites was the lyricist Gulzar's reaction when the reporter asked him to compare this incident with 9/11 and asked him if it was bigger than this. His reply was why do you want to compare it with 9/11? Don't we have any reference points among the attacks happened in India? Was the attack on the parliament any less? Was the Mumbai train blasts any less? Good Point.
Barkha Dutt, the feisty reporter from NDTV defended herself and the whole media in general against the allegations leveled against them. For the criticism about the channels fighting over each other to show the actions of the police which helped the terrorists know every move of our security forces, she blamed police saying they should not have allowed the reporters to come near the site and instead they should have had a central command which would give inputs to these reporters. The blame game is full on with one blaming another.
Amidst all this, I saw the candle light vigils and coming together of people across all walks of life, people of all religions at the Gateway of India. I wish we were this united always and not only when tragedy strikes.
There are so many solutions being offered by many people. Some people are asking our government to take military action, but my opinion is we should first make our internal security strong before we take any other action.
